We here at Firenuggets concur with the decision makers at the Naperville FD that Mike is one hell of a fireman, great friend, husband and father. Firenuggets.com would like to congratulate our good friend and supporter, Jim Sewnig, upon his recent graduation from the Chicago Fire Department Fire Academy. Jim is no newcomer to the Fire Service or the Chicago Fire Department. He was a fireman in Naperville and then became a paramedic for the Chicago Fire Department. His wish came true when he crossed over to the fire side. Jim, we know how proud you are to be a member of the Chicago Fire Department assigned to 46 Engine. I had the privilege of attending a class taught by Andrew Fredericks in Fort Wayne Indiana several years ago. The class was on engine company operations, and the lessons I learned that day have stuck with me in my everyday life. God Bless Andrew Fredericks and his family

Great web page. While I was with FEMA, I built several custom mobile response and mobile command and Incident command communication vehicles. I would like to assist other emergency responders who may need my experience in putting together the finest mobile packages. I will be glad to volunteer my services for free if someone needs my 20 + years experience.

Fire nugget's is fascinating, well written and extremely informative. It's great to learn from Vincent Dunn. I enjoy his work on building collapse and high-rise fires. I am a Newyork city fire safety director. I work in a manhattan luxury hotel and have worked in various commercial properties including one Liberty plaza located in the shadow of the world trade center. God bless all you brave people fighting fires around the country. May your local governments appreciate your sacrifices as much as the public does. Thank you for your spirit and kind giving nature. My fanily appreciates all the F.D.N.Y'S sacrifice in attempting to rescue my cousin David Tirado from the world trade center in 2001. May God hold you and illuninate you all in his loving light for eternity. Semper Fi
To all the Brothers and Sisters out there,
We're having a benefit for a Castle Rock brother who was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease. Chief Rick Lasky will be coming to speak on March 19th. Go to www.arvadafire.com and click on the link for more information. Please find time in your schedule, if you've ever heard Chief Lasky speak you know it'll be a day well spent and you can benefit a brother at the same time. Cheers
We should never stop looking for new ways to prevent the tragedy of the past. Let us learn from our short comings and procure a new future, with new chances at survival! I have invented 3 New devices which can help in a number of Scenarios.
This guestbook is very limiting. The following is the remainder of what needed to be said from the previous message.
In addition to Lt. CJ Haberkorn,Denver FD, a special thanks to Lt Andy Singer, Denver FD, and Lt. Scott Eckels, Castle Rock FD. You guys exemplify what is so good about the fire service especially in the greater Denver area.
Monday night was awesome brothers...and just a quick assessment from us out-of-towners,...WOW!!!
P.S. Dave, thanks for getting us a job!
I just returned from Denver after having attended the seminar "Commanding the MayDay and RIC OPerations" by Deputy Chief of Special Ops, Mike Bryant, Los Angeles County FD. This presentation included Capt. Gary Morgan and his rescue during a harrowing fire in a Los Angeles commercial building. OUTSTANDING!
Thanks to both of you for sharing your knowledge and experience with the brothers and sisters.
I would also like to acknowledge and thank District Chief Dave McGrail for taking the lead in coordination and setting up this seminar for the Denver area. None of this would have been possible without Dave and his father, Division Chief (ret.) Patricl McGrail, a class act and fire service icon. I would also like to thank members of their staff Sean Roeper, firefighter Denver FD. Sean you were awesome playing nursemaid and baby sitter to Mike, Gary, and I. You were the best!!(STOP calling us by our rank!) And a special thanks to LT C.J. Haberkorn, Denver FD,

ONE IMPORTANT PIECE OF INFORMATION I LEFT OUT OF MY PREVIOUS COMMENT REGARDING THE NFA.
LETTERS SHOULD BE FAXED ON JANUARY 21, 2005. LOCATE FAX NUMBERS FROM THE FOLLOWING URL: http://www.aspb.org/publicaffairs/state_fax_nmbrs.cfm
The National Fire Academy is in need of your help. The US Fire Admin budget has been reduced by more than 50% over the past 10 months. It is CRITICAL that you FAX (DO NOT e-mail or send snail mail) your senators and congressman a letter expressing objections to continued cuts. Use details and talking points from the January Newsletter of the Society of National Fire Academy Instructors www.snfai.org
Good work. Keep up the training skills and always, always work safe!

"Faces of the Brave" (FOTB) is a "Non-Profit" Tribute Artwork Project that has been created to Honor the fallen New York City "Fire & Rescue" personnel and other heroes lost on 9/11 by putting their faces before the public. No longer will the thought of these brave men and women become a fading memory or mere statistic, their faces will help to remind us of the personal sacrifice made that tragic day.

seems like you have a lot of good information,
great pics, nice site
This by far is the best ten dollars I have ever spent on training and information, its worth 100 times that. The information found here is from experinced and nationally recognized fire service personnel who have extensive knowledge and first hand experience. I usually print off the articles and hang them up for everyone in the station to read. Maybe if more people subscribed or shared the info found here, we could save alot more of our Brothers and Sisters from getting injured or dying.
Keep up the great work Fire Nuggets

I was in Marine Corps boot camp during 9/11, and I took it hard. I've been a volunteer firefighter since I was 15. The thought of loosing so many brother firefighters hurt really bad. May God will continue to comfort those who still grieve the loss of family and friends.

amazing pics. excellent work
Your web site is great, a lot of good information.
Found your site via a flyer for CDF Fire's Chief John Hawkins "Firefighter Safety and Survival" presentation. Great site, great presentation!
Your tribute to Andy Fredericks is truly touching and 100% accurate.
Andy was our first speaker at what has become a growing annual firefighting seminar, featuring top notch FDNY speakers.
After which he became a constant source of information. Any time I had a firefighting question, I would call or e-mail him and he would always have the answer or get it for me if he didn't know.
He was experienced, knowledgeable, articulate, yet humble and caring; a true gentleman in every sense of the word.
Our department now effectively uses smooth bore nozzles on most handlines because of the information provided by Andy.
Andy's tragic death was a tremendous loss for the fire service, not to mention his family and many many friends.
I know I really miss him.
I only hope to pay tribute to him, on a daily basis, by doing my part to maintain a high level of training, thereby making our department as safe, efficient and professional as possible.
Keep up the good work and sta

I am signing in because of a couple of reasons. 1) because I lost my younger brother 21 years ago, due to an air conditioner exploding in his face on his regular job; but his first job was the fact that he was one of the first paramedics in the south suburbs of Chicago. He was with Midlothian, and loved his job. Which brings me to my second reason: when I lost him I never let it get me (the loss of my brother). But I found something to do in memory of My Brother...I became a volunteer on one of The Salvation Army Canteens' until they took my unit out of the southside of Chicago (actually it was in Alsip)! But I donated my time for all that my brother did to help others. I am also an Amateur Radio Operator (ham radio), and still volunteer my time with Salvation Army's Team Emergency Radio Network. God Bless All Our FIREFIGHTERS!

Just wanted to say "thanks". So much is dedicated to EMS, WMD and other items that the art and safety of firefighting seems to be on the last burner somewhere in the back of our training priorities.

It has now been almost 22 months since September 11, 2001. Andy Fredericks was a good friend, co-author and just a great guy. I personally miss him very much.Andy was a pacesetter in the realm of delivering water to extinguish the fire ! What a novel idea. There is just so much more to do and teach in his area of expertise.
Rest in Peace my friend. We will NEVER FORGET !
I just want to say that this is a great website. I have been trying to find information on fallen brother Andrew Fredericks. I personnaly never knew him. I never had the privilege of meeting or attending one of Andy Fredrick's classes, but he has had a great impact on my career. Andy's articles and videos on the basic fundementals of firefighting has inspired me to learn more about nozzles and the proper and safest ways to apply water on a fire.Thank you Andy for sharing your wealth of knowledge and making me realize how important the littles things are to making our job safer. I have become one of your ambassadors.
