The recent passing of Chief Tom Brennan was a huge loss to the Fire Service. His vast experience and knowledge was second to none. Simply put, Tommy had the answers and they were always correct. More importantly, there was no one who could put them into words and print better than Tommy. His wisdom and genius made us better firefighters. The number of firefighters and citizens he saved over the years, and will continue to save through his teachings, is immeasurable.

To us at Fire Nuggets, his insight and guidance was instrumental in keeping our heads above water, allowing us to continue spreading the message that ultimately keeps firefighters safe. We could not have done it without Tom.

On a personal note we cherished his friendship, humor and wit, loyalty, and fatherly advice. He was a fireman to the core, who relished the chance to talk “fire” whenever the opportunity arose. We will miss the bull sessions in the pubs and those long telephone conversations. His loss leaves us empty but determined to continue to spread his word and that of anyone who cares about the greatest profession.

Tom’s expertise as a “Fire God” is legendary, but as much as he loved the Fire Service, his wife Janet and four children were the real loves of his life. He excelled as a husband and a father far beyond his prowess as a firefighter.

And so we bid Tommy a temporary farewell because we know we will meet again. We miss you and love you, Tommy.
