FIRE
PICS "ON THE JOB"

| Six
photos below: Columbia Air Attack Base, California, August 29, 2009.
S-2T air tankers reload with 1,200 gallons of retardant and quickly
depart for the Big Meadow Fire in Yosemite National Park. On
Wednesday, August 26, the National Park Service conducted a
prescribed burn of what was supposed to be 90 acres. The fire was
lost almost immediately and has since resulted in the evacuation of
two towns, a threat to numerous structures, and the loss of more
than 2,664 acres (data as of 07:00 08.29.09). Temperatures have been
in the mid- to upper-90’s with relative humidity in the teens
(YES! You read correctly). No doubt heads will roll! The last
photo is of a U.S. Forest Service Lead Plane departing for the Big
Meadow Fire after refueling. Photos by Ted Corporandy.
