Ne Oublie

Gordon Graham here. I am an American from Clan Graham of Scotland. My heritage is Scot, traceable way, way back to the Eleventh Century. Every Clan in Scotland has symbols that are special to that specific group of Scot people. Each Clan has a specific design of Tartan. Each Clan has a territory specific to them. And each Clan has a motto. Clan Graham has chosen “Ne Oublie.”

I had nothing to do with this choice. This motto was chosen centuries ago by tough people who thought it through and said, “This is what we are all about.” The closest interpretation into modern English is “Never Forget.” In fact, this is the name of my boat; it is prominent in my office doo-dads; and it is very personal to me. Long before I was aware of my Scottish roots and Clan Graham, I practiced the Clan motto, “Never Forget.”

I will Never Forget those who have done me right, and as un-Christian as this may sound, I will Never Forget those who have done me wrong. All of that “Forgive and Forget” crap has never set well with me. I know the Good Book says to “Turn the Other Cheek,” but I will only do that if necessary to improve my aim and line up my target with my strong eye. Please don’t waste your time writing or calling me. I recognize my weaknesses, and I can live with them. Fortunately, there are many thousands of the former good people who have done me and my family right; and I will truly Never Forget your kind deeds, and you will be repaid fully ten times over. There are only a few (so very few) of the latter not so good people who have gone out of their way to try to harm me, and I will Never Forget you and your deeds either. Perhaps this is a curse, but I have great difficulty forgetting things. In the tragic days that follow the brutal terrorist murders in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C., I have made a vow that I will, indeed, Never Forget. Here are some truly miscellaneous ramblings.

I will Never Forget the politicians who repeatedly cut the budget of our brave military women and men. We are now at a 368-ship Navy, and my friends in the military wish it were bigger. I will Never Forget the same politicos who neutered our Human Intel ops with stupid “politically correct” policies. Note to Ms. Boxer: Sometimes you have to deal with jerks to get dirt on bigger jerks. I will Never Forget the other nutheads in Congress who made it easier to get permanent lifelong welfare (money constantly draining out of the budget) than to get a building permit (money continually flowing into the budget). I will Never Forget the idiots who added state law after state law into federal law thus overburdening the good people in the FBI and making it difficult to do their primary mission, domestic security. I will Never Forget that while the crime of domestic violence is important, it has no business in federal law tying up highly trained federal agents who have much more important things to do.

I will Never Forget the spies within us who chose to sell out our great country for a couple of bucks, thus causing the murders of some of our best human intelligence operatives overseas. I will Never Forget that those assassinations discouraged many others from getting involved with the U.S., forever hamstringing our intelligence operations. I will Never Forget our nation’s idiots who just don’t seem to get it when it comes to being constantly alert for threats against this Great America. I will Never Forget the flood of “nice” illegal immigrants who thus made it easier for the evil illegal immigrants with murderous, criminal intent to slip through our borders. I will Never Forget many of our Hollywood celebrities (my, aren’t they quiet today) and their ongoing rants about our great country. By the way, I will Never Forget that they promised to leave the country in 2001. Note to Alec and Babs: Let me know if you need help with the bus fare, so that I can quickly Forget you and your friends. I imagine you two are now on the line with your stockbroker selling as much as you can, not knowing that Good Americans will not sell the future of this great land.

I will Never Forget the countries that stood with us in our time of need, and I vow to Never Forget those who chose the other path. Warning to France: Don’t screw with us like you did on the Libya caper fifteen years ago. If we need to fly over your precious Chateau to get the job done this time, we will. There are a whole bunch more of us now who will Never Forget you said “No” last time when we asked nicely. That ended up with the death of two of our F-111 pilots. You should Never Forget that you would all be speaking German while eating your snails and drinking your Pooly Foosay if it was not for this great country sixty years ago. Additional warning to Toshiba: Next time somebody comes to you with a pocket full of cash and wants computer technology to mill a lathe to make their subs as quiet as ours, give US a call first, and we will show you how to handle it. Never Forget that we will Never Forget what you did for a couple of pitiful dollars extra in your profit.

And, I will Never Forget those countries that choose to give safe haven to the murderous punks who want to destroy the Greatest Country in the world. And I vow to Never Forget the leader of these rats, whoever he may be, and however many they may be. We will find out who you are. My advice to you, pal, is to not buy any green bananas and Never Forget that we will Never Forget. Be hopeful that NYPD and FDNY don’t find you first.

And finally, I will Never Forget the brave New York City firefighters who died trying to rescue others in their time of greatest need. Heroes one and all, they will Never be Forgotten. I will Never Forget the picture snapped by a survivor as he ran down the stairs….you remember, the picture of the firefighter coming up the stairs, trying to help someone, anyone, who might need a hand. I will Never Forget that this brave firefighter died only minutes after the picture was taken. I will never fully know, yet nonetheless I will Never Forget the unbearable heat, the inability to catch a breath, the cacophony of sounds as the building imploded, the sickening smell of the Jet-A burning, the G-forces present as you fell with the structure and it crushed the life out of you.

These things I will Never Forget:

I will Never Forget that each of those brave firefighters had a family and plans for not only next weekend, but the long term future.

I will Never Forget that many of them left young children behind who will never know their parents as well as most of us do.

I will Never Forget the brave police officers who also perished with the firefighters. God Bless each and every one of you too.

I will Never Forget that you (my faithful reader) or I could have been there, the wrong place at the wrong time.

I will Never Forget the image of the 767 slicing into the side of the WTC.

I will Never Forget the pancake collapse of both buildings with the cloud of smoke and dust rising like a nuclear cloud.

I will Never Forget that we may have another attack against America tomorrow, and that brave firefighters and police officers will respond to that incident also and try to fulfill the oath they took at the start of their glorious career because this is what they do.

I will Never Forget the fighting-mad Americans (Messrs. “Let’s Roll” Todd Beamer, Jeremy Glick and Thomas Burnett and Mark Bingham – possibly others) on United Flight 93 who decided to take the terrorist punks on and destroy their nefarious plans to destroy our nation' leaders. Note to Pierce 007: Next time you want to complain about one of our warships on maneuvers hitting some stupid whale, remember that the Real American Heroes on Flight 93 had only had one “take” on this. It had to be done right the first time, and it was done right with no stunt doubles and no safety harnesses.

And I will also Never Forget that there are tens of millions of other Americans of all races, colors, national origins, sexes and sex orientations like those on Flight 93 who recognize that this country and what it stands for is worth dying for.

There are some things that we should Never Forget. And I will Never Forget to Never Forget any of the above when I spend my money and when I vote. Hopefully, you will also Never Forget. Ne Oublie — Never Forget.

Well, that wraps it up for this issue of Miscellaneous Ramblings. I just finished reading today’s Los Angeles Times; and there was a list of the missing. I read every name on the list, and I am very angry right now. So be it.

Good Luck, Good Health, Good-bye, and God Bless America and the brave women and men in uniform who wake up every day not knowing if is their last. You too, I will Never Forget.
