In December of 2008, Fire Nuggets became a FREE access website. The reason Fire Nuggets could provide this high quality online training for FREE was because our seminars provided the revenue to support the expenses associated with maintaining Firenuggets.com. Up until 2010, the seminars were well attended, with numbers of 60-180 for a one-day seminar. However, we regret to report that seminar participation in 2011 and 2012 have been insufficient to meet our financial needs for maintaining the Firenuggets.com web magazine. In fact, with only 15 -25 registering, we have been forced to cancel some seminars. While we are not sure of the specific cause, we suspect the national and global economies have finally caught up with firefighters. With the canceling of seminars come unfunded expenses and, consequently, no funding for Firenuggets.com. Please remember, Fire Nuggets is not a corporate enterprise, but rather “firefighters for firefighters”, committed to doing their best to keep firefighters safe. As it stands today, we need your help if we are to continue.

Our belief is that the seminars will be attended by fewer and fewer firefighters until the economy turns around. With the lack of funding derived from the seminars, we are no longer able to sustain the expenses required for providing the quality content you enjoy or maintaining the website. We would like to continue to have Firenuggets.com be a FREE access website and ask that if you are happy with it and value what Firenuggets.com offers you on a regular basis, you consider making a contribution to the cause. This would be similar to a pledge to support Public Television that we have all seen and/or participated in before. We know that firefighters are the first to throw a few bucks on the counter when networking and raising a few while toasting the brotherhood after a class, sharing stories and telling tall tales, so we hope you will view this as an equally good cause.

As you contemplate the level of your support, we want you to be aware of a few important facts:

  • The administrators of Fire Nuggets have never, and currently do not, collect any salary.

  • Although you see a few advertisements on the Main Page, they are all provided in trade with no revenue received.

  • Fire Nuggets continues to dedicate the website to Lt. Andy Fredericks, Chief Tommy Brennan, Chief Benny Crane and a few others in our Hall of Fame.

  • Fire Nuggets staff volunteer their time to administer the Lt. Andy Fredericks, FDNY, (deceased), Scholarship Fund.

  • Through our events partnership with Firehouse, we remain completely independently owned and operated and receive no funding from Firehouse. We do however, receive marketing support for the seminars through Firehouse which has assisted in a very positive way

  • Although our overall marketing efforts have expanded, the seminar registrations have not increased as anticipated, and we believe the economy to be the main contributing factor for the reduced attendance.

After much consideration, we have decided that our Brothers and Sisters deserve a voice in what the future of Firenuggets.com will be. Therefore, if you are willing and able to assist, any level of contribution would be greatly appreciated.... $5, $10, $15, $20 or more. We have been around since January of 2000, and we cannot imagine having to sign off. Coming to you with this appeal is very difficult and uncomfortable, but after 12 years we find that offering you an opportunity to share in the underwriting of this valuable resource is indicated.

This will NOT be an on-going effort, so your immediate consideration is requested. If everyone contributes just a little towards the cause, we will be able to continue bringing you Firenuggets.com for years to come.
