Search Culture:
Foundations of Coordination
"From Mindset to Movement - Creating Clarity on the Fireground"
Instructed by Justin McWilliams
April 17, 2026 | 3-Hour Session - AM or PM | Pasadena, CA
Search Culture: Foundations of Coordination is a three-hour discussion designed to challenge us.
This is not the full Mindset and Search program, nor is it a full-day tactical deep dive. It is the starting point.
The session brings firefighters, company officers, and chief officers into the same room to examine how culture and communication determine whether search operations are organized or chaotic. We focus on mindset, operational clarity, and the systems that shape performance long before crews enter the structure.
This discussion was intentionally built to introduce Search Culture; to open the door and provide a portion of the framework. The three-hour format is intentional. It provides a solid foundation of the framework and a clear understanding of what expanded training can offer, all in a focused session that respects your time.
The objective is alignment. When alignment exists across ranks, search becomes more controlled, lowers risk, increases accountability and improves outcomes.
This session establishes a shared language and operational framework. From there, departments can move into deeper operational training, department-wide mindset alignment, structured search and rescue development, 22-minute drills, and hands-on programs - all executed with clear purpose and direction.
Cultural change does not begin with tactics - it begins with how we think about the assignment.
This session starts that shift and exposes the gap between where search stands today and where it can be.
